The Simple Hat
by Starfish KnitsMaterials Needed:
16" size US11 circular needles
4 size US11 double pointed needles
Stitch/Row Marker
Tapestry Needle
Yarn Needed:
Any Bulky 5 weight yarn (picture shown uses Lion Brand Homespun yarn in Edwardian)
Approximately 50 yds (or less than one skein) needed
To begin:
CO 50 (for adult sizing)
Place marker and begin working in K1, P1 in the round until the piece measures approximately 2 inches from the base.
Begin knitting every stitch in the round until the piece measures approximately 6.5"
Decreasing rows:
Row 1: (K5, K2tog) until last stitch, K1
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: (K4, K2tog) until last stitch, K1
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: (K3, K2tog) until last stitch, K1
Row 6: Knit
At this point you may want to move your needles onto your DPNs (double pointed needles)
Row 7: (K2, K2tog) until last stitch, K1
Row 8: Knit
Row 9: (K1, K2tog) until last stitch, K1
Row 10: K2tog until last stitch, K1
To finish:
Cut a long tail and use the tapestry needle to thread the tail through the remaining stitches, slowly pulling the stitches off the needles as they are strung.
Once all stitches are off the needles and linked to the tail, pull the tail to cinch the remaining stitches together.
Begin to weave in the tail and secure it to the hat. Cut off any excess tail.
Weave in the tail from the start of your hat (at the base)
And, voilĂ ! Your very own simple hat.
