Stitch-N-Pitch

I finally made it to Stitch-N-Pitch night at the SF Giants' home stadium, AT&T Park.  I've been wanting to go for years and never made it until just last week.  I went with an old high school friend of mine and some of my knitting buddies from work.

We each got a Giants themed knitting bag.  Not super big, but nice enough for a decent sized project.  I do wish it had had some way of closing, like a tie or zipper or something.  Funny thing though, this photo is of my friend Lara's bag because the other three we got had the decal upside down!  We didn't even notice until the game was nearly over.  Oh well, you can barely tell.

Plus it was really more about the experience, rather than the bag :)

Everyone had something they were working on, a doll blanket, a scarf.  I had a black and white dishcloth.  I wanted to do something Giants colored, but didn't happen to have any good ideas for my crappy orange yarn.  So I went with the black.  That's the nice thing about the Giants.  You can just wear (or knit) black and it's still team spirited.

Anyway, it was so fun to be surrounded by other knitters and kind of surreal to be sitting at the game knitting, instead of knitting on my couch while watching the game.  If you happen to hear of a stitch and pitch near your area and you enjoy baseball at all, I highly recommend it.  It's pretty cool.

Summer Spruce-Up

Hi loyal readers!  Sorry it's been a while!  I recently hurt my wrist, so I wasn't able to knit for a while, and didn't have a lot to contribute to this blog.

You may have noticed the new look of the blog... Figured it was time to try something new.  Freshen things up a bit.  Let me know what you think!

Since I don't have any recent knitting photos of my own to share with you, I thought I'd share a few fun facts and knitting inspired events with you!

Knitting at it's chic-est!
First, did you know that Audrey Hepburn (my all-time favorite movie heroine) was a knitter?  Yep!  She even knit sweaters for herself and former husband, Mel Ferrer.  I found this photo in a book I received for Christmas some time back.  It was a collection of candid photos of the lovely actress, and I nearly jumped with delight when I saw this photo in particular.  I never knew she used to knit!  How inspiring!

Second, if you haven't already noticed, it's baseball season, my favorite sports season of the year!  I'm going to a local Stitch-N-Pitch night, and I've heard that they do these kinds of special nights at baseball stadiums all over the country!  They are sponsored by the National Needle Arts Association.  You can learn more by clicking here.

Find your favorite baseball team's website and check into their Special Events and you'll probably be able to find it.  I've never been before but I imagine it's going to be a really cool way to connect with a greater knitting community.  Can't wait!
